Radiotherapy is a common cancer treatment in medical practice that utilizes high-energy X-rays to administer radiation doses to cancerous tissues. However, the therapeutic use of radiotherapy is constrained by its low radiosensitivity, inaccurate tumor localization and poor differentiation between lesions, and the adverse effects of irradiation in healthy tissues. Hence, it is crucial to develop methods to enhance the radiosensitivity of malignancies while reducing their systemic side effects. Combining nanotechnology with radiation improves therapeutic results. Using high-atomic-number (high-Z) nanoparticles as radiosensitizers can greatly enhance the effectiveness of breast cancer treatment when exposed to X-ray radiation, as evidenced by studies evaluating cell viability, proliferation, reactive oxygen species production, and in vivo antitumor effects...
